Laschal Surgical MaxGrip Snagless® Needle Holders

Laschal Surgical is a manufacturing company based in upstate New York. Their team is committed to producing the highest quality Castroviejo needle holders on the market. Their attention to detail and quality of manufacturing remains unmatched. Several design features provide a unique edge which give clinicians the highest likelihood of achieving surgical success.

MaxGrip Tips
Due to popular demand, Laschal Surgical has designed MaxGrip Tips which are intended to maximize the needle grasp and retention. Due to a larger surface area, the MaxGrip Snagless Castroviejo allows surgeons to suture with a higher confidence that suture needles will not rotate when gripped. This is especially helpful when large gauge sutures and needles are being utilized.

Splay Resistant
The unique steel used for the Snagless® Castroviejo needle holder is extremely flexible, yet strong. This allows the instrument to adapt to any needle size and then return back to it's original form. The grade of steel used for this needle holder has a very high modulus of elasticity due to it's low carbon content. This means that even after repeated use and sterilization, the beaks of the Snagless® needle holders will never become disformed. This prevents the needle from rotating or slipping even after years of use.

Lightweight Material
The type of steel used by Laschal is also very light in weight. This makes handling much easier and more precise. It also allows the needle holder to transmit vibrations very easily, allowing for high tactile feedback. This allows clinicians to feel what is happening at the tip of the instrument, allowing surgeons to make corrections based on feel. Although the instrument is very light, the strength and durability of the instrument is not negatively effected.

Corrosion Resistant
The low carbon content in the steel used by Laschal makes this instrument very resistant to corrosion. The surface of the instrument will remain free of surface imperfections if properly sterilized. This ensures that your instrument stays looking clean and that the mechanical features of this needle holder are not affected by corrosion.

Use Any Size Needle
Although this needle holder feels very lightweight, the construction and material used allows for repeated instances of cyclical loading. This means that the needle holder can be bent, and then straightened repeatedly, resulting in many years of reliable function. This also allows you to bend the instrument for readjustments if you wish to change the gap on the beak. Because of the flexibility of Laschal's steel, it allows clinicians to use any size suture or any size needle, making this Castroviejo universal.

Tungsten Carbide Insert
The carbide inserts that are present in the Laschal instruments, while common to all other carbide inserted instruments, have far greater survivorship in the Laschal instruments than in any other instrument. This is because of the flexible nature of the prongs themselves. In all other instruments, the carbide inserts are soldered onto inflexible prongs. When these prongs grip onto a suture needle, an inflexible object (the prongs) grip onto another inflexible object (the needle). The carbide inserts, a powdered metallurgy that is very brittle by nature, is the weakest part of the entire complex. More frequently than wear, the inserts on these instruments fail due to fracture. The carbide inserts in the Laschal instruments last far longer because the prongs themselves are flexible and buffer the forces placed upon it by the grasp of the suture needle

Tumblok® Lock OptionThe Tumblok® slide lock design is available on any style of Laschal Castroviejo needle holder. This locking design eliminates the two-part locks which are often prone to breaking long-term. This simplified lock system works by sliding your finger over the external tab to disengage the two sides of the Castroviejo. This feature can be actuated by your thumb, making for easy and consistent operation. The traditional locks provides by Laschal are very high quality, but the long-term durability of the Tumblok® is superior.

Rifled Hinge Design
One of the main problems that clinicians face when suturing, is the suture getting caught in the hinge when tying knots. This slows doctors down, and makes the process of suturing difficult. Laschal uses a rifled hinge design which prevents any snagging when tying sutures. This speeds up the surgical process and alleviates the frustration of snagging sutures.

Made and Serviced in the USA
Laschal products are made in the USA with materials sourced domestically. This means that repairs and servicing can be done easily without delays. Laschal instruments are designed to last a lifetime, but certain mechanisms such as the tungsten carbide tips or locks can wear down over time. All of these mechanisms can be replaced quickly and at low cost, making the long-term cost of ownership very low. You will have the body of this instrument for life, needing only servicing once the mechanical features begin to wear.
