Cutting a HeliMEND® Collagen Membrane 15x20MM

HeliMEND® is provided in a standard collagen membrane 15x20mm size, providing ample material for coverage, while also facilitating cutting and reshaping to suit the surgical application.

HeliMEND® collagen membrane 15x20mm can be trimmed with sterile instruments and should be handled with sterile gloves. Each collagen membrane 15x20mm is provided with a medical-grade polyethylene sheet that can be used as a template. Trimming down a HeliMEND® absorbable collagen membrane is a simple process. The template sheet included in each HeliMEND® collagen membrane 15x20mm package is embossed to easily distinguish it from the membrane.

Excess material should be discarded after the procedure.

Clinical guidelines for Miltex® HeliMEND® Membrane

HeliMEND® membranes should be used when mucoperiosteal flaps are developed at the treatment site. A sulcular incision is ideal for placement. Debridement should be thorough, and the clinician should aim to retain as much tissue as possible so that primary closure can be achieved.

Handling a Miltex® HeliMEND® membrane is uncomplicated, whether hydrated or dry. Placement is safe with either method. According to preference or the technical requirement of the procedure, the membrane can be hydrated in sterile water or a saline solution.

The membrane should be placed directly over the defect being treated, and as close to the adjacent tooth as possible. Miltex® HeliMEND® should extend no more than 3mm beyond the defect. The membrane can be carefully trimmed after placement for final shaping and to round corner edges.

All Miltex® HeliMEND® absorbable collagen membranes are suitable for suturing with absorbable sutures and non-cutting needles. Flaps should be positioned over the defect and membrane for closure. Wherever possible, the flap should fully cover the membrane.
