Dental Implant Multi Driver Sets – Frequently Asked Questions

With a dental implant multi driver set, it’s possible to service prosthetic attachments for any implant system. Versatile and convenient, universal implant prosthetic kits are available to order from Dental Implant Technologies.

Learn more about our dental implant multi driver sets with these frequently asked questions for dental professionals.

What’s Included in a Dental Implant Multi Driver Set?

The components included in a dental implant multi driver set depend on the specific product that you purchase. At Dental Implant Technologies, we supply dental implant multi driver sets with and without ratchet wrenches.

    • Our Adjustable Torque Wrench Kit (SKU: ATWK) includes drivers for Hex, Unigrip, and Torx, as well as a reliable adjustable torque wrench for implant placement, prosthetic placement, and prosthetic removal.

If you don’t have an adjustable torque wrench or if you have an older design that needs to be replaced, we recommend choosing a dental implant multi driver set with a ratchet torque wrench included.

Can Universal Dental Drivers Service Overdenture Systems?

Locator® is the most popular overdenture system used by clinicians today. The design is convenient and easy to work with, offering excellent versatility for placement. This system uses custom triangle drivers that aren’t included when purchasing universal dental drivers.

You can purchase universal dental drivers and add Locator® drivers to work with any square ratchet. Our Square Wrench Prosthetic Drivers (SKU: ADS) are available in assorted styles and sizes, including long and short 3mm triangle configurations.

Do Implant Driver Kits Need to Be Used with Torque Wrenches?

Implant driver kits can be used with thumb tools, torque wrenches, and non-torque wrenches.

The ratcheted torque wrench design is best for implant driver kits. It allows both implants and abutments to be placed with a precise amount of torque to ensure excellent long-term results. Correct torque improves stability and reliability. If you want to get the most from implant driver kits, use them with your existing torque wrench or purchase our Adjustable Torque Wrench Kit to get drivers and a high-quality wrench in a single package.

How Can I Prevent Implant Rotation While Using Universal Dental Drivers?

Immediate implants that haven’t been osseointegrated can rotate when using universal dental drivers. To avoid this problem, have your surgical assistant grip the prosthetic attachment with hemostats or any suitable clamping tool.

While the attachment is gripped, use the universal dental drivers to secure the screw. This will ensure that all of the torque is directed to the screw rather than the other components. You’ll get excellent engagement without compromising the implant post.

Which Hex Drivers are Available for an Implant Driver Kit?

Hex drivers are available in three sizes.

  • 1.20mm drivers are suited to Biomet™ 3i and similar systems.
  • 1.25mm drivers are suited to Hi-Tec, Zimmer®, Implant Direct™, and others.
  • 1.30mm drivers are used for Intralock® implants.

1.20mm and 1.25mm drivers are included with implant driver kits. 1.30mm drivers aren’t as common but are available in some kits or as individual parts.

Are Torx and Unigrip Drivers Different?

Torx and Unigrip are both star-style drivers.

  • Unigrip is used for Nobel Biocare™ systems.
  • Torx is used for Straumann® systems.

While they look similar, Unigrip and Torx have slightly different profiles and engage differently. Always use the correct driver corresponding to the implant system to prevent screw damage.

What Driver Lengths Are Available in a Universal Implant Prosthetic Kit?

Driver lengths can vary depending on the manufacturer of the universal implant prosthetic kit.

A short driver can be as short as 6mm, while a long driver can be up to 22mm. Long drivers can be used for short abutments and crowns with less convenience in terms of space and handling. No matter which kit you choose, always choose the driver that fits the most closely to the abutment/crown.

Can I Add My Own Components to a Universal Implant Prosthetic Kit?

Yes! A universal implant prosthetic kit is designed to be versatile. 4mm square connections are used to ensure compatibility with standard ratchets. If you have drivers in your inventory, you can continue to use these alongside a new universal implant prosthetic kit. If you purchase a kit with a torque wrench, then your square attachments will be 100% compatible.
